Rhinegeist has possibly the most recognizable packaging. But do you know the meaning of it? Rhinegeist first opened its doors in 2013 in the former, pre-Prohibition bottling plant of Christian Morelein Brewing Company, hence the ghost. This facility is located in the Cincinnati Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, which is of course where the Rhine part of the name comes from. Thus, Rhinegeist translates to Ghost of the Rhine. Of course, they’re known for more than just their wittiness. In 2018, Rhinegeist was deemed the 28th largest independent craft brewery in the US and the largest in OH by sales volume. Their brews have won many awards and nominations including: 2019 US Open Beer Championship – Uncle won gold in the English Mild category, Guava Tangent got silver in the specialty beer category, and Perceptual Passion got bronze in the specialty beer category. And in 2018, Truth (IPA) was named one of the 100 best beers in the world by Men’s Journal. Luckily for you, Rhinegeist offers a variety of brews from shandies to ales to IPAs and lagers. And of course, each beer has its own cool look. So whether you pick your beer by the cool packaging or you take a guess on the name, you’re sure to be happy in the end. Take a look at their seasonal releases for this year. Which will you try? The new and famous Streaker, Franz, or Peach Dodo?
