Like the 100 plus horsepower tractors that Switzerland County farmers rely
on to get big jobs done, participants in the popular Steintossen need
similar muscle strength to maneuver the stones. The hefty hunks contain no
fiberglass, only pure minerals. Both the men and women divisions use
weight (83 pounds for large and 25 pounds for the small) and age to
categorize competition. The contest rules near those used for shot put in
track and field. Steintossen action will get underway at 4:30 p.m. Saturday
and then again at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
